Ethnomedicinal relevance of selected monocot taxa from different geographical regions of Pakistan

Background: Pakistan has a unique biodiversity of monocotyledon flora and due to its climatic condition huge number medicinal plants are distributed in the area. Ethnobotany plays crucial role understanding dynamic relationships between biological diversity social cultural systems. However, studies about ethnomedicinal significance monocot taxa very limited. Methods: This study documented indigenous uses selected taxa. The data was obtained through semi-structured interviews with local men, women herbalists were analyzed by different quantitative indices i.e. Use value (UV), frequency citation (FC), relative (RFC), information consent factor (ICF). Results: In present study, monocots belonging seven families collected from geographical regions Pakistan. Family Amaryllidaceae reported as higher used species. Most often parts noted bulbs followed leaves roots. most frequent mode preparation method found decoction raw form. Nine disease categories including respiratory diseases, antidote, gynecological problems, urogenital digestive disorders, glandular blood circularity system dermatological musculoskeletal disorders. Among them, disorders show high ICF. Conclusion: document showed that folk medicine against various diseases. Medicinal having help identify phytochemical compound is bioactive indispensable for synthesis novel drugs Keywords: Monocotyledons taxa, value, usage; communities; ethnobotanical indices.
